Transatlantic pay gap narrows

When the British government politely asked Sir Fred Goodwin, the departing chief executive of the nationalized Royal Bank of Scotland, to give up his roughly $1 million-a-year pension last February, his stubborn refusal made for very bitter headlines. It also helped dispel the notion of excessive executive pay as an exclusively American problem.
