MindSnacks, the DreamIt Ventures accelerator grad that has become known for its addictive educational games for iOS, announced today that it has raised $6.5 million from Sequoia. The startup initially found success based on its language learning games for iOS, which sought to turn flash cards and textbook reading into an activity kids would actually enjoy. The startup developed apps for 13 languages, and today has over four million downloads of its games.
With its new capital, the startup plans to bigger, extending its portfolio beyond language acquisition and test preparation, expanding into subjects the average high school and college student would find in their curriculum. To do so, the startup will be using its new cash to ramp up hiring, especially engineers and designers.
