During my CES show floor travels, I swung by Motorola's booth and see the Droid Razr Max. Why? Because battery technology hasn't changed much and Moto claims a 21 hour runtime for it's latest Android smartphone. But it's still only 8.99 millimeters in thickness!
When Motorola debuted the Razr Maxx smartphone on Monday and claimed double the battery life over its other handsets, I was intrigued. During my CES show floor travels, I made it a point to swing by Motorola’s booth and see the phone for myself. Why? Because battery technology hasn’t changed much and more power usually means a thicker device.
You can see in this short video tour of the handset that Motorola claims will run for 21 hours is still quite skinny. The overall thickness of the Razr Maxx is 8.99 millimeteres but the device holds a 3300 mAh battery. As a point of comparison, Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus handset uses an 1850 mAh battery. Like Verizon’s Nexus, the Maxx is a 4G LTE phone, so it stands to benefit greatly from the larger power capacity. Obviously, I can’t yet tell if the 21 hour battery life claim is accurate, but the Maxx is sure to get even the heaviest users through a full day of use. The $299 (with contract) smartphone is powered by a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, has a beautiful 4.3-inch display, 32 GB of storage and can be used as a 4G hotspot for up to 8 devices. A few minutes of hands on time showed me a similar experience to Motorola’s other Android phones of late. I’m personally not a fan of the Motorola software customizations in general, but I am impressed with the Smart Actions: These let you create tasks based on conditions. I do that today with a third-party app called Tasker on my Nexus, but Motorola’s implementation is easier to use, even if it is a little more limited. Related research and analysis from GigaOM Pro:
