ESPN releases an app that lets viewers watch their programs 24/7.
(IBTimes) -- 04/07/2011 --
Sports fans on the go -- ESPN has an app for you. The popular sports channel announced a new app that allows Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks and Verizon FiOS TV subscribers to watch ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3.com. The app, called free WatchESPN, allows users to navigate and watch ESPN programming in high-resolution. "Innovation continues to drive ESPN," said George Bodenheimer, president, ESPN, Inc. and ABC Sports. "When we launched in 1979, nobody envisioned a day when people would carry ESPN in their pockets. But here we are. And we've reached this watershed moment for the industry through tremendous collaboration with forward-thinking partners." The app will be available on all iOS devices including the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. Once downloaded, all a user has to do is enter their cable subscriber information. This will prove they are a customer of the aforementioned cable subscribers and open up access. Right now, the app is only optimized for the iPhone. However, ESPN will release an iPad-specific app in May. This is the first app produced by ESPN to deliver its complete streaming content. The only app that has come close is a goal line/buzzer beater app, which allows users to watch scoring situations in basketball and football.
